Im shipping a diecast car model in a box bigger than the car. What would be a good padding or support so the model car will be secure?

Would a diecast car be too heavy? I would like to use a diecast model car because of the detail but, if that isn’t possible I also have some plastic model cars I could use. I would really prefer using a diecast car though. Thank you, so much!
I have been collecting baseball cards for over 20 years. Got into NASCAR collectibles about 10-12 years ago. My bedroom wall is hanging full of 1:64 scale diecast cars. I have alot of Earnhardt Sr. and JR. cars. The top of our TV in our living room is covered with 1:24 scale cars and I also have some Maxx Racing card sets on it. 2 1990 sets and one 1992 set. I have also put together several sets of my own. I bought an autographed Benny Parsons 1991 Legend card today for practically nothing. I know Beckett makes an “Annual” price guide. Is this guide only made once a year? I’m thinking of ordering the OPG just to look up my racing cards and diecast cars. Is it worth it? I have Jeff Gordons 1992 BGN RC in the Maxx Black Update set along with his 1992 ROY card in Maxx. I also have his 1993 Wheels Rookie Thunder card. The latest PG I have is Jan. of ‘05 They do not book much in there. The only way I can get any info on there value is by going to Becketts OPG and see what they r selling for. Anyone have any input about the stuff I mentioned? Thx alot..P.S.-I am looking for a 1996 Fleer Ultra Update #10 Dale Earnhardt card. I need it to finish the set..ChasingFever..
Dale Jr is running the retro Mt Dew car this weekend ( I’ll bet ole’ DW is even more excited when he says Boogity-Boogity-Boogity!) and the 3 Doors Down Citizen Soldier car during the all-star race, and it got me thinking about special paint schemes.
I like the change of pace, but it costs me a ton of money because I collect diecast. It all started for me when Dale Sr. ran the silver RJR 25th aniversary car in the 1995 Winston.
What do you guys think about special paint jobs?
What is the difference between 1/24 or 1/18?
Is price the difference or is it the size of the car? This is all new to me but I would like to buy some as a Christmas gift and I dont know which is better, or if it even matters? Thanks
