Hi i have no idea about airbrush kits but i would like to paint some diecast models(im sick of using canned spray paint).Can anyone advise a good kit for the begginer especially compressors as these just confuse me!What features do i need to look for?also what kind of paint do you use thats suitible for diecast models?Im in the uk if that helps.Many thanks

your local hobby or craft store will have booklets, and beginners kits. Also, check with your local library to see if there are any books on airbrushing models. Frequently info on types of kits to get youstarted are listed in the back of these books. The counter person at the hobby store may be able to offer some suggestions, or try to get to a hobbyists group meeting and discuss this with some of the members who can get you started or may even be willing to let you watch them work on theirs so you can see what to do…

I bought a great kit from “Airbrush City” out of California. I bought it on ebay and he shipped it right away and it was packaged very secure. He has a toll free number to call anytime plus a website when ever you have questions. There are several different kits available…check it out.

Since you’re in the UK I would suggest the Olympos HP 100B airbrush. It’s my favorite by far, and think it’s quite reasonably priced in your region, and is able to do the fine detail work you’ll be looking for. If you’re going to be using a lot of solvent based paints you may want to look into a Iwata HP-C, but I would strongly suggest sticking to water based paints if you’re using the airbrush indoors without a paint booth designed specifically for this purpose.
As for the compressor you’re not going to need anything larger than a small, single stage, oil less 1/8th hp hobby/airbrush model. You can usually find them really cheap on ebay if you do a search for “airbrush air compressor”. One of my favorites is a generic model with an attached water trap. You’ll also want a quality hose with the braided cover at least 12 feet long (3.66 meters). If you find you’re still getting water in your airline you can buy a water trap which connects to the bottom of the airbrush. They’re very cheap.
